Welcome to The Old Schoolhouse Inn & Restaurant

The Old Schoolhouse Inn & Restaurant is a charming retreat nestled in the heart of Downsville, NY, known for its rustic character and warm hospitality. With a commendable rating of 4.4, it stands out not only for its delectable cuisine but also for its inviting atmosphere.

Guests like Maureen Caplette have praised the dedicated staff for their unwavering commitment, especially during busy weekends. The restaurant's wide-ranging menu appeals to various palates—John Pohja and his companions celebrated the burgers, noting them as some of the best they've ever tasted. Pairing these culinary delights with an assortment of ice-cold beers and freshly prepared fries creates a dining experience that's hard to forget.

The atmosphere at The Old Schoolhouse Inn is as noteworthy as its menu. As described by F N, diners can enjoy their meals in a beautifully designed setting adorned with captivating taxidermy and hardwood floors. This touch of local charm provides a cozy backdrop for guests seeking a home-like comfort during their meals. For those with an eye for unique decor, the space is filled with memories and souvenirs from hunting trips—each item telling a story of adventure and tradition.

For overnight guests, the accommodations are equally impressive. Many, including Lee Gee, rave about the King room suite, which boasts a private jacuzzi and sauna. These amenities, combined with access to a backyard, offer an oasis of relaxation perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life. While some may find holiday pricing a tad high, the luxurious experience justifies the investment.

However, not all experiences are flawless. While Marlene McMillen's initial visit included some overcooked prime rib, her overall impression remained positive, highlighting the attentive staff and inviting decor. F N's critique of the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms suggests a need for culinary refinement, yet the delight of a well-prepared BBQ prime rib sandwich made up for any shortcomings.

Overall, The Old Schoolhouse Inn & Restaurant exemplifies a harmonious blend of excellent customer service, hearty meals, and an ambience that feels both intimate and energizing. Dining here is not just about the food; it's an experience that invites guests to linger a little longer, reminisce about their own journeys, and leave with a memorable story of their own. Don't miss the chance to savor a meal, whether it be a burger made from locally raised beef, a sumptuous dessert, or simply a drink at the bar while soaking in the delightful surroundings.

We stopped for lunch on a very busy Sunday. Only 2 waitresses that worked their hearts out and did an amazing job. Everything was amazing. Food was cooked as ordered. The bathrooms were large and clean. We loved looking at all the souvenirs from so many hunting trips.

stopped by on the way home after a real estate trip to Delhi. The 4 of us all had varying burgers, and we were all in agreement that they were among the best we've ever had. Beer was ice cold and fries were fresh and hot. Service was great too. Dining area is a sight to behold.

This place was recommended to us to stay local when visiting a friend who has a summer house in the area. We had no idea how adorable this place would be! We opted for the King room (suite) which had a jacuzzi and sauna, our own back porch and backyard area and it was truly lovely! The price was a bit high but it was a holiday weekend so that's understandable. The restaurant seemed very popular but we chose not to eat there as we are animal lovers and there were stuffed taxidermy creatures in every inch of the place. That part wasn't for us... They do have a cute outdoor seating area though... All in all we were very happy and it was a wonderful experience!!!

The atmosphere is nice... beautiful hardwood floor dining area with taxidermy all round. We ordered beers, crabmeat stuffed mushrooms which were more like a crabmeat "suggestion" or imitation crab meat or whoknowswhat, the stuffing was just gummy and doughy. We also ordered the bbq prime rib sandwich, which was so so yummy and totally recommend if it is available

This restaurant is A+ ! We had the filet mignon and roasted red potato special and the schoolhouse burger, then the Reese's pie and the Oreo pie for dessert - the food was delicious and our server, Meg, was very attentive and friendly! Quick service and a quaint, clean atmosphere. Don't miss out!

First time dining there. Prime special was overcooked for the 3 of us that ordered it. Should have sent them back but we were starving. Rest of meals were prepared correctly. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Decor definitely worth the visit. Will be back for drinks at the bar and see more of the decor and order appetizers.

Stepping into this restaurant feels like coming home—if home were an impeccably designed wonderland of cozy and heartwarming vibes. The interior is nothing short of mind-blowing; every corner seems to be thoughtfully arranged to evoke a sense of warmth and intimacy. The food is spectacular, to put it mildly. The tortillas we tried were a revelation, offering a burst of flavors that I can only describe as mind-blowing. They managed to elevate a simple dish into something extraordinary, and that’s a testament to the chef’s skill and ingenuity. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the desserts arrived and exceeded every expectation. Each bite was a journey through layers of flavor and texture that left us speechless. I’d say they were above and beyond what one would typically expect from a dessert menu. None of this would be possible without the incredible staff, who orchestrated the whole experience like a well-conducted symphony. Their attentiveness and skill were evident in every interaction, adding another layer of magic to an already unforgettable experience. In summary, this restaurant offers not just a meal, but a journey—one that captivates all your senses and leaves you eagerly awaiting your next visit. I cannot recommend it enough.

I was out riding around on the Northeast BDR and one of the locals suggested this place for lunch and boy they were right this place is fantastic. They cater to bikers and are known for their burgers. This place raises their own beef in the back and it makes the world of difference. The burgers come out juicy and big. The menu even offers a 24oz burger. Definitely come here if you're on section one of the BDR drop in and support this business.
